The future of the server.

April 15, 2012 in Server info, Site News

The time has come to talk about the future of our Terraria server.

Some of you may not know, but this game server is hosted on a private server and internet connection. This server performs multiple functions for me, and some of those have suffered as a result of maintaining it. I would like to reclaim that performance. You should understand, however, that this is not my only motivation for wanting to take it down. The server has seen less and less activity, (from what I can see) and with the possibility of an IndieSquish.com Terraria server, it will likely be a good time to migrate soon. I’ll likely be involved in running that server, (if it happens) and already work on the IndieSquish King Arthur’s Gold servers. Add to that the time spent OPing in the StarBound and IndieSquish forums and IRC, and my spare time is quickly spent.

The TL;DR: I’m going to take the server down, in favor of possibly managing a server for IndieSquish. Expect it to be offline after 7pm EST, April 20th. The world will be made available for download shortly afterwards.

Server world updated!

March 18, 2012 in Server info, Site News

Hey folks!

The server has been restarted, with a new world in place! There are a couple things you need to be aware of:

/tp has been disabled. Unfortunately, this command has caused problems with the server, making it unusable for short periods of time.

Hardmode has been disabled for a while. This is to allow new characters a chance to survive for a while. it will likely be enabled again after a week or two.

The previous world is available for download here!

From the About page:

Starbound is a brand new game undergoing active development by Chucklefish, an indie game company made up of a lovely group of dudes and dudettes. It’s expected to be released towards the end of Summer 2012, but we’re willing to take the extra time to get things JUST right.

If you like what you see, please feel free to leave a comment or tell your friends. We hope this blog can be an insight into the trials and tribulations of the development process, the people behind the game, and what we hope to achieve.

A story within a sandbox

Starbound begins with you fleeing your homeworld in a space shuttle, just as it’s destroyed by an unknown enemy. With nothing to guide it, the escape pod shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle makes contact with an abandoned space station and an adventure begins that will take you hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe.

Go over there. Sign up on the forums. Get involved. Say hi to a few of the MCWB / Terrariatory team there, too!

(You can craft and ride mechs in the game. How cool is THAT?)
